1. That the former law which was given by Moses was to cease.

In Isaiah: “Then shall they be manifest who seal the law, that they may not learn; and he shall say, I wait upon the Lord, who turneth away His face from the house of Jacob, and I shall trust in Him.”(Isa. viii. 16, 17) In the Gospel also: “All the prophets and the law prophesied until John.”(Matt. xi. 13)
