Commentary on Ezekiel - Volume 2
John Calvin · scripture, bible-commentary
Chapter 15
1Then came the word of Jehovah unto me, saying,
2Son of man, What is the wood of the vine Better than any branching-tree among the trees of the wood?
3Shall wood be taken from it to form any work? Or will it make a peg to hang any vessel thereon?
4Behold, it is east into the fire for burning; The fire devoured both ends of it, and its middle is burnt Is it useful for any purpose?
5Lo! when it was entire, it was not used for any purpose: How much less when the fire has consumed it, And it is burnt up, shall it be useful for any purpose?
6Therefore thus says the Lord Jehovah, As the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, Which I have cast into the fire for fuel, So have I given the inhabitants of Jerusalem:
7Then will I set my face against them; They shall pass through fire, and fire shall consume them; And they shall know that I am Jehovah, When I have set my face against them.
8Then will I make the land desolate, Because they have transgressed with transgression Says the Lord Jehovah.
