Commentary on Psalms - Volume 5

John Calvin · scripture, bible-commentary

Psalm 14

1The fool hath said in his heart, “There is no God;” They have corrupted [all good order,] they have done abominable work. There is none that doeth good.

2Jehovah from heaven looked down Upon the children of men, To see whether there were any that did understand, And seek after God.

3Every one of them hath gone aside, Together putrid have they become: There is none that doeth good, not even one.

4Have they no knowledge all these workers of iniquity? Who eat up my people as they eat bread. Upon the Lord they do not call.

5There did they tremble with fear, For God is in the generation of the righteous.

6The counsel of the poor ye deride, Because Jehovah is his hope.

7Who shall give from Zion salvation to Israel? When turn back shall Jehovah the captivity of his people, Rejoice shall Jacob, and exult shall Israel.
